Ruk-Com brings enterprise Platform as a Service to Thailand with Virtuozzo
Ruk-Com is an exciting and fast-growing cloud services provider based in Bangkok, Thailand. The company launched in 2013 as a traditional web hosting business, offering shared and VPS hosting, domain registration, web builder services.
Today the company has evolved into a full-service cloud consultancy and cloud hosting provider for larger enterprises, as well as maintaining its entry-level web hosting products for smaller businesses. According to CEO, Chaturaphut Triphet, this transition was enabled by the partnership with Virtuozzo.
“Historically our web hosting services were built on ProxMox, OpenVZ, a mix of technologies,” he says.
“When we discovered Virtuozzo we were able to consolidate our hosting environment using Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure, and create a single resource pool with centralized administration. This enabled us to develop cloud hosting services not just for smaller clients, but for enterprises with more demanding needs – combining Infrastructure as a Service with Platform as a Service cloud.”
Enterprise Platform as a Service
For the past three years Ruk-Com has been building a growing range of enterprise cloud hosting services with Virtuozzo. Its enterprise customers range from retailers with relatively straightforward website hosting needs, to companies developing their own web and mobile applications. Ruk-Com provides extensive consultancy on infrastructure, system design and DevOps best practice, and implements its advanced Platform as a Service offerings using Virtuozzo Application Platform.
“Using Virtuozzo really helps us make PaaS easy for enterprises and their development teams,” adds Chaturaphut.
“Customers can deploy their application from Git, configure autoscaling and High Availability, and install everything from a single server to a complex cluster in just a few clicks. In general we’re seeing a shift towards containerized Platform as a Service, from traditional VMs: as more companies become application-centric, PaaS is a much more flexible way to build and continuously improve their software and service.”

Multi-region IaaS and PaaS
Now Ruk-Com is expanding its Infrastructure and Platform as a Service capabilities with Virtuozzo in its Singapore datacenter, enabling customers to choose from datacenters in four countries – Thailand, Singapore, Japan and France. Importantly, Ruk-Com’s Virtuozzo PaaS platform enables a single point of control for multi-region and even multi-cloud deployment.
“Multi-region is important for resilience, for example if there is a problem with connectivity in a certain region,” says Chaturaphut.
“It also helps customers deploy applications close to their users, and with Virtuozzo, every region can be managed in the same user-friendly interface. Our customers can also deploy to multiple third party public clouds if they wish – again, managed through a single interface. It’s easy and flexible, which is what enterprises need.”
Dedication to support
Providing effective support is critical to the success of Ruk-Com’s business, especially after the changes to working practices brought about by the Covid pandemic.
“As in many countries, Covid created a rapid shift in the Thai market to home working and delivery of services online,” Chaturaphut says. “There are now many VM providers in our local market offering low cost VMs – but they are low cost because they do not include professional support. Service and support is critical in the Thai market, even more so than price, and this is where we excel: we have a large number of support team members who provide 24×7 live support by chat, phone and email.”
According to Chaturaphut, this personalized local service is much more attractive to Thai businesses than the large public cloud providers.
“The hyperscale clouds are not cost-effective, but above all, they don’t give customers the dedicated support that we do,” he says. “We work with customers through the whole lifecycle of their project, from consulting and advice through to implementation and dedicated support.”
