The current release of Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure (VHI) is version 5.3. In the next major release, 6.0, there are important hardware compatibility changes that you need to be aware of and start planning for!
Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure 6.0 is expected to land in Q2 2023, and it will run on Linux kernel 5.x. To be able to update your VHI cluster to the new major version, your hardware must be fully supported.
Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure with the new kernel works on the same hardware that is recommended for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL9). Please ensure that the hardware you are using or going to use is compatible and has the required certifications for RHEL 9.
Hardware compatibility check
You can do the following to check if the hardware you are using, or you are planning to use, is compatible with RHEL 9:
1. Check with the vendor’s support department or with your hardware supplier for RHEL 9 compatibility
2. Check if your hardware is in the list of Removed hardware support in the official RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 documentation:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 - Removed hardware support
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 - Removed hardware support
Devices (drivers, adapters) listed in that documentation will no longer be available and recognizable in Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure running on Linux kernel 5.x.
3. Check if your hardware is in the list of Unmaintained hardware support in the official RHEL 9 documentation:
Devices (drivers, adapters) listed in that documentation are no longer being tested or updated on a routine basis in RHEL 9. Consequently, using such devices in production with Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure running on Linux kernel 5.x. is not recommended.
