Java Elastic PaaS at Oracle Code One 2018

| October 18, 2018 | News | , , ,

Even after the name change (previously JavaOne), Oracle Code One keeps stable popularity in the Java community. So Jelastic, being PaaS with a high focus on Java, cannot resist participating in one of the most inclusive worldwide developer conferences. Meet our CEO at the event on October 22-25 in San Francisco.

Elastic JVM: Automatic Vertical Scaling of the Java Heap

Jelastic CEO, Ruslan Synytsky, will be one of the speakers at the conference and discuss the problem of Java greediness, possibilities to make JVM more elastic and automatically scale Java Heap vertically, as well as the upcoming patch in OpenJDK 9 with enhances to the Garbage-First collector.

Elastic JVM: Automatic Vertical Scaling of the Java Heap

Containers provide much better elasticity and density than VMs, but JVM-based applications are not fully container-ready. The first issue is that HotSpot JVM doesn’t release unused committed heap memory automatically. Second, it is not possible to increase the size of the JVM heap at runtime. To solve these two major issues and make JVM more container-friendly, a new patch is implemented for the Garbage-First collector in OpenJDK 9. This session shares details of what is done and how the added improvements enhance resource consumption efficiency.

Private Talks and Demo at Hackergarten

Want to go deeper into the issues of Java scaling? Meet Ruslan Synytsky at Hackergarten to ask questions about JVM elasticity, explore how to test and tune memory usage, and see the demo how automatic vertical scaling help to reduce consumption.
