“Easy to use, easy to integrate and good price management”

PaaS presents a great opportunity to elevate your business as it becomes more vital to forward-thinking developers and SMBs every day, therefore, switching to the cloud isn’t a matter of when, but how.

Have you ever thought about the reasons why lots of software development companies experience the rapid growth after migration of their projects to the cloud?  Cargopooling paas use case logistic business Cristian Costantini Let's check it out from the interview with Cristian Costantini, CEO at Cargopooling, a company specialized in developing solutions for logistics.

Cargopooling Inc. have developed SmartCargo, the software that provides advanced logistics algorithms to optimize routes for people and goods (their usual customer flow can reach ~12.000 clients/month). Cargopooling migrated to Jelastic PaaS on top of Layershift cloud hosting. As the company has two locations in USA and Italy, they are running several environments in multiple regions (US and EU) within one provider.

What were the key reasons to host your project on Jelastic? What problems you were trying to solve and what features/services attracted you?

Before Jelastic we have used dedicated servers and we stopped using them because of the maintenance required, as well as it was impossible to expand the project and reach automation. We also struggled with the poor infrastructure and support - sometimes we even faced interruptions up to 8 hours!

We chose Jelastic because it's easy to use and easy to integrate with CI. We have also developed some integrations for Ant. We've been using Jelastic for a while, and we definitely see changes to the better.

Jelastic is based on containers, did you face any problems while moving to containers?

No problems for now - we didn't have to make any changes in our project architecture while migrating to the cloud and containers. It was absolutely painless for us.

What stacks do you use to run the project and how they are interconnected? Why Java?

We distribute traffic with NGINX load balancer across Tomcat application servers, connect MongoDB and MariaDB as database servers, and use Doсker connected internally via IP.

We opted Java as a programming language for the widely expanded community and a rich set of development tools available within. For now, we plan to stay with Java.stacks to develop java software

What was the cost difference? Do you benefit from automatic vertical scaling?

Yes, absolutely, automatic vertical scaling helped us to significantly save costs compared to dedicated servers.

Your overall impression and highlights of using the platform.

Easy to use, easy to integrate and good price management. Currently, we are using Layershift, and for us, it seems to be the best cloud hosting provider. My advice for other customers: test drive the service provider before choosing it.
