Jelastic, advanced multi-cloud PaaS with high expertise in Java, became a winner of the Duke’s Choice Award 2018 due to the official announcement at Oracle Code One conference in San Francisco.
“The Duke’s Choice Award is granted only to the most innovative, novel and groundbreaking projects using Java and we are happy to be among them. Jelastic team keeps working tightly with Java community to make the platform even more developer-friendly and meet the needs in tune with the times,” says Ruslan Synytsky, Jelastic CEO and co-founder.
The primary judging criterion for this prestigious award is Java innovation and Jelastic proved its sustainability in this direction already twice. In 2012, Jelastic won its first Duke’s Choice Technology Leader Award and that was a great breakthrough for the company. And this year the platform provider showed that the technology became even more mature.
Currently multilingual, Jelastic was initially created as pure Java cloud platform (Jelastic = Java + Elastic) and still maintains a primary focus on this programming language. At the early stage of PaaS adoption, there was a very limited offer for Java due to its complexity and heaviness that made the hosting too expensive. So solving these two problems became the core aim for the team.
"Jelastic was a game-changer to help Jahia Cloud deliver its Headless CMS capabilities with global availability, near-instant environment creation, stellar clustering and configuration capabilities. All this whilst dynamically scaling server's size to gracefully handle millions of visitor requests," says Julian Maurel, Jahia Product Manager, Cloud & DevOps.
Jelastic keeps working on improvements of JVM behavior during variable workloads for making resource consumption more cost-efficient while running in cloud hosting environments. Collaborating with different experts involved in JVM development, publishing articles highlighting this issue and motivating the community to help in finding a solution resulted in the increased attention to this topic and new improvements introduced. Moreover, Jelastic initiated and sponsored development of a patch to OpenJDK which makes Java applications that rely on G1 garbage collector more elastic and scalable vertically.
“As a developer and entrepreneur, I rely on Jelastic to run my business. For years I've been benefitting from their visionary expertise on making Java Virtual Machines work elastically. Because of that, I've been using Java the right way in the cloud, and I always marveled on how much more advanced they have been compared to other providers. It's really exciting to see their efforts and technology recognized with the Duke's Choice Award! Congrats Jelastic, very well deserved,” says Bruno Souza, SouJava Leader, Brazilian JavaMan and Developers Advocate.
Jelastic auto-clustering technology helps to get rid of this complexity while developing enterprise level solutions with Java. The team built smart pre-configured Java EE clusters running in domain mode inside containers with the automatic interconnection of newly added instances. This solution does not require any code or architecture change for deployment of existing applications, as well as no manual adjustments while scaling. In addition, it simplifies the migration of traditional Java applications from VMs to containers reducing efforts and investments while getting to the era of containerization.
The efforts to improve Java technology and user experience cannot be unnoted, so getting the Duke’s Choice Award 2018 became a reasonable outcome for Jelastic PaaS. Explore the Java platform technology.
