Multi-Cloud PaaS Setup Types

The basic idea of Multi-Cloud is the ability to aggregate various types of hardware, IaaS, and 3rd-party cloud tools within a single entity orchestrated via unified UI. The Virtuozzo multi-cloud solution provides many unique benefits:

  • Freedom from vendor lock-in: You’re free to use any infrastructure you like to get a fast, cost-effective, developer-friendly home for your applications. Virtuozzo Application Platform enables you to deploy and migrate applications to any cloud without code changes. It provides true flexibility for multi-cloud deployments.
  • Easy multi-cloud management: By abstracting applications from cloud infrastructure, in a single user interface, Virtuozzo Application Platform simplifies the multi-cloud landscape and reduces the time and skills overhead needed to benefit from the advantages of different cloud providers.
  • Multi-cloud cost reduction: The Virtuozzo Application Platform gives you a single view of usage across any number of clouds – as well as a truly fair consumption-based pricing model, where you genuinely pay only for the resources you consume.

Once you have your initial PaaS installation (e.g., on Vultr or Google Cloud), you can extend it with other availability regions to form a multi-cloud. The necessity to use different hardware can be driven by various reasons, from providing several capacity options to geolocation access policies. You should follow one of the guides linked below (depending on each specific use case a different approach may be optimal):

  • Host Group – If new hardware utilizes the same network, it can be added into the existing region as a host group (a new hardware set with its own options, efficiency, rules for resources charging, etc.).
  • Region - If hardware utilizes a new network with its own configurations (subnet, domain), a new independent hardware identity (region) and a new Shared Load Balancer (resolver) must be created.

Tip: In case you just want to extend the existing hardware set, you can follow the add host general guide or use specific ones:

Such a division provides a clear, highly flexible, well-organized structure that ensures multiple benefits and opportunities. Here are some examples:

  • expand the zone of influence by providing the corresponding services globally with multiple hardware sets acquired
  • improve the service quality through broad geo-distribution (better response time)
  • ensure real versatility by providing high-quality (production) and more affordable (development) hosting options
  • give extra security guarantees by keeping data across multiple data centers and services
